Where is Columbus Circle?

Columbus Circle is one of the most famous places in New York City. Named after Christopher Columbus’s statue, the square is located at the junction of some of Manhattan’s main streets (Broadway, 59th Street, 8th Avenue, and Central Park West). It’s also the meeting point of the Central Park, Hell’s Kitchen, and Upper West Side neighborhoods.

Two huge skyscrapers dominate the view from the square. The first is the Time Warner Center, a modern 55-story twin-tower building on the west side of Columbus Circle.

Next to the Central Park entrance, you’ll find the Trump International Hotel and Tower, a 44-story skyscraper named after Donald Trump who renovated it in 1994.

How to get to Columbus Circle?

Several NYC subway lines cross the square from north to south.
At the junction of 59th Street, Broadway, and Eighth Avenue, you will find the 59th St – Columbus Circle subway station where the 1, 2, A, B, C, D trains run.

The first thing to see is undoubtedly the Columbus Circle statue of Christopher Columbus in the middle of the square. An Italian sculptor created it in 1892 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Columbus’ landing in America. This white marble statue is 21 meters high and stands on a granite column decorated with bronze reliefs.

Columbus Circle provides easy access to many exciting parts of Manhattan, such as Central Park, on the square’s north side.

Central Park is the largest urban park in Manhattan and is well-known all around the world. It’s the Big Apple’s green lung covering an 843-acres area.

Both New Yorkers and tourists love to walk through this legendary park seen in many movies and TV shows. It’s also one of the favorite places for locals to sunbathe and play sports. There are so many things to see and do that one day wouldn’t be enough to visit it all. There are beautiful gardens, artificial lakes, waterfalls, forest-like areas, and to top it off, even a zoo.

If you’re an art lover, you have the opportunity to visit MAD – the Museum of Arts and Design, where you can discover and explore contemporary and historic innovation in craft, art, and design in a new way.

If you are in NYC during the Christmas season, in front of Columbus Circle, there is usually a lovely Christmas market (the Columbus Circle Holiday Market) that becomes the heart of the neighborhood for about a month. You can find unique handcrafted items and taste typical New York Christmas food.
